The Highlanders had another strong weekend of basketball. The program went a combined 4 – 4 in their road games to visit Jackson and Glacier Peak.
The 5th graders went 1 – 1 over the weekend. They got it started with a solid win against Jackson, 33 – 26. Great hustle and tough defense were keys to their success. However, up at Glacier Peak they ran up against the solid team and ended up on the short end, 35 – 20. The team continues to work hard and improve.
The 6th graders continued their winning ways with two great wins. In their first game at Jackson, an ice cold shooting Shorecrest team struggled throughout the game. But with key rebounds and baskets in the 4th quarter to go along with their can do attitude they scored a come from behind victory 33 – 31. In the second game the team heated up and coasted to victory. They got great contributions by all members of the team – a true TEAM victory. Way to go Guys. The 6th graders overall record is now 11 – 1. YAHOO !!
The 7th graders took it on the chin this weekend. They lost to very good Jackson team. After getting down early in the first quarter the 7th graders played them pretty even for the last three quarters. At Glacier Peak, the 7th graders continued to play exciting and intense defense while the offense is starting to get better. In the end Glacier Peak walked a way with a 46 – 37 victory.
In what has to be one of the best team games witnessed in a long time, the depleted 8th graders beat Jackson 63 – 52. With a number of players unavailable, injured or ill, the team relied on all available players to provide key contributions – truly, a very rewarding victory for the team. In their late game the team ran out of gas and suffered their first season loss, losing 50 – 42.
Next up are home games against Shorewood and Mountlake Terrace on Saturday January 5th.
To all of our players, coaches and great fans, have a wonderful and joyous holiday season.
Thank you, Bruce Meyers
