An outstanding weekend of basketball for the Shorecrest Highlander Select program. All 4 teams placed in this weekend's tournament. Shorecrest was the only program out of 16 teams to place all 4 grades in the tournament.
8th Grade: - 8th Place, 2-2 tournament record
After losing their first round game to Mtlk Terrace (the eventual 4th place team), Shorecrest rebounded with two nice wins against Everett and Oak Harbor. Playing in the 5th/8th place games on Sunday afternoon, Shorecrest was down two starters but still fought against Stanwood into an overtime game. Stanwood ended up pulling out the close contest by 3 and the Shorecrest 8th graders took home 8th place. Great job Scots.
7th Grade: 1st Place, 4-0 tournament record
A fantastic weekend of basketball from the 7th graders. After a 61-26 victory over Oak Harbor in the first round, the Scots beat Kamiak in the second round 53-32. In the semi-final against Jackson, Shorecrest avenged earlier season losses to acheive a 55-44 win and put themselves in position for the championship game against rival Stanwood. A 24-24 tie at halftime, the fans were not dissapointed with this game. With 6.6 seconds left and leading 52-50, Connor Hyppa calmy swished 2 free throws and ice the championship for Shorecrest. Great season Scots!
6th Grade: 4th place, 3-1 tournament record
A great tournament for the 2015 class of Shorecrest Select. Coach Lawson's squad won their first game but lost their second round matchup to eventual 2nd place finisher Cascade by 1pt. Shorecrest came ready to play on Sunday with two excellent victories against top seeded Stanwood and Shorewood. The 6th grade Scots ended a great season with a 4th place season. Way to finish strong Scots!
5th Grade: 1st place, 4-0 tournament record
The Shorecrest 2016 class put together a dominant season and cruised through the tournament unscathed. After a convincing first round win, they beat Shorewood by 8 points to get into the semifinal. The youngest Scots then made sure they were going to the championship with a convincing 43-20 win over Cascade. In the championship, the Scots faced Glacier Peak, the only team they lost to in the regular season. The Scots came out on fire and won the championship 49-26. Awesome season Scots!
We want to thank the parents, players, coaches and volunteers for a fantastic WESCO regular season and playoff. We have created a great program that teaches the kids about fundamentals, sportsmanship and a great attitude. Go Scots!
