The Highlander Select Teams all got back to winning this past weekend, with the program going 6 – 2 overall against Cascade and Oak Harbor.
Overall the program record is a combined 51 - 23, a 69% winning mark Overall League 5th Grade: 7 – 11 (4 – 7) 6th Grade: 17 – 2 (10 – 1) 7th Grade: 9 – 13 (4 – 6) 8th Grade: 19 – 1 (10 – 1)
The 5th graders played hard and tough against Cascade in the opener but game out on short end 43 – 30. A few more key rebounds and we might have had a different result. In their second game the kids put in all together with good defense, hustle and team play with a solid 54 – 14 victory over Oak Harbor.
After a tough prior weekend, the 6th graders got back on track with two solid wins 57 – 36 over Cascade and 52 – 40 over Oak Harbor. In both contest the 6th graders controlled the tempo, hit “money” shots and played excellent team defense.
After losing a tough battle to Cascade in the first game 36- 31, the 7th graders put it all together against Oak Harbor, winning 59 – 37. In that game the kids confidence grew with each made shot. After having a few games where the ball had a difficult time finding the bottom of the net, it was great to see the shots start to fall for the guys. Nice win guys!!
Like the 6th graders the 8th grades swept both of their games in convincing style. They topped Cascade by 24, 54 – 30 and handled Oak Harbor 69 – 53. The game against Oak Harbor featured one of the leagues premier players from Oak Harbor. However, the team did what it does best: defend, push the ball up the court and play team basketball. The real pressure for the 8th graders is the 6th grade team who are only slightly behind them for the best record in the program.
This week’s upcoming games are at Arlington (Haller Middle School) and Mount Vernon. As a friendly reminder the games against Arlington have an early start time; 9:30 for 5th and 7th grade; 11:00 for 6th and 8th grade.
Thanks to all our great fans for coming out and supporting the teams.
